Expert: Apple, Samsung to have problems without Russian metals
MOSCOW, Apr 13 (PRIME) -- Apple and Samsung will find it hard to stop using Russian precious metals in their production given their reasonable prices and high quality, independent expert Leonid Khazanov told PRIME on Thursday.
“In theory, Apple and Samsung may reject Russian metals, but in practice, it will be very hard to do so,” Khazanov said.
“The prices of Russian metals are comfortable for foreign consumers as our companies can give good discounts, which is not the case with suppliers from Europe or China.”
The expert also said that the number of gold and tantalum producers is limited.
Business daily Kommersant reported earlier quoting a statement on the use of precious metals by major smartphone makers Apple and Samsung that Apple officially turned down wolfram, tantalum, and gold from Russia.
Apple said it still received wolfram from Moliren in the Moscow Region.
Samsung still uses Russian metals despite its decision not to sell electronics to the country.
